Team Fusion’s Product Backlog Item (PBI) Lifecycle

  1. New
The PBI stays in this state while the Product Owner (PO) drafts it.

  2. Approved
The PO would like to have this PBI implemented. Devs will give an effort estimate for these during Backlog Refinement. POs will work with the Product Manager (PdM) to move approved and estimated PBIs into their targeted Sprint.

  3. Committed
The Dev Team has committed to completing this PBI in the current sprint.

  4. In Progress
Upon beginning work on a PBI, the Dev Team will set it to In Progress to start the clock on the PBI’s Cycle-time. During this state, Devs will create tasks to reflect the work required to complete the PBI.

  5. Notify PO
The Dev Team has completed the PBI and has notified the PO in the PBI’s discussion for their review.

  6. Done
The PO has confirmed the PBI meets the Definition of Done and sets the state to Done. This stops the clock on our Lead-time and Cycle-time, and updates our burndown chart.
