Launch

Explain briefly each of the four histograms – allows you to filter

By approved year – this Histogram -> Applications for Approval going back to 2010.
Note: Overall, it seems that the trend for the annual number of requests has been declining

• We can filter by region / province to reduce clutter
• We can switch between filtering on Status and Work Type

Click on layers icon (top right) – there are two layers in this dashboard. Start with Status

NPP Project by Work Type
NPP Projects by request Status

  1. Have all of Canada visible

  2. Going east to west select Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, PNR and then Pacific. – switch between each region and all region data. Show that that is a lot of data points

  3. Now enlarge the status histogram using the resize button in the corner

  4. Hover over complete and show the tooltip with the count 6.3K applications that are complete since 2010

  5. Now hover over Active, now there are only 13. Click on the sliver of data and close that histogram and wait for map to refresh. Only blue active applications are visible.

Switch data layer to Work Type

Show legend from the burger menu icon with all of the colours
Go to work type histogram and select one at a time
Aerial Cable

Aquaculture

Focus on Aquaculture for a moment. Expand on your scenario with something like: Perhaps there was an incident with aquaculture and it turns out that fish farm waste is very degrading to the environment. Management may want to know if we have active applications and where they are located because our approval processes may need to change.

• Point out that we have aquaculture applications in Atlantic and Pacific
• Zoom in on PEI. Here are the ones in Atlantic
• Click on the yellow data point near Bathurst. This application 200074 is complete
• Switch data layers back to status
• Click on the blue data point near Bathurst. This application 200058 is active

Benefits

In this demo we displayed two layers - Status and Type of Work with histograms that allow us to filter

• Using dashboards is free, you do not need an account. You just need a browser
• Dashboards can be published and shared easily
• Dashboards provide a common view
• Anyone can perform basic analysis using a mouse
• Sharing dashboards allows us to move from reacting to incidents or events to being proactive and focus on planning
