Aboriginal Consultation
Description
Aboriginal Consultation
In Canada, the Crown has a legal duty to consult Aboriginal groups when it contemplates conduct (i.e. any project or activity that Transport Canada controls, authorizes or funds) that may adversely impact potential or established Aboriginal or treaty rights.
TC’s Aboriginal Consultation Unit helps the department take a consistent approach to its Aboriginal consultations; focuses on regulatory stewardship and Indigenous affairs.
What we do:
develop, update and use consultation tools
provide training, guidance and support to Transport Canada officials
develop TC’s Aboriginal consultation information management system
conduct research and analysis to inform Transport Canada’s consultations
