How To Request Training
DSD-Marine employees should ensure that they have the tools and skills needed for their job by seeking training and growing their digital talent as part of Public Service Performance Agreement signed at the start of each calendar year. A focus on training and skill-growth will contribute to a workplace culture set to succeed in the digital era.
In general,
Focus on training outlined in your PSPA Learning Plan.
Focus on recommended training found on the Training Links and Helpful Tips page.
Any digital training materials from your courses should be placed in the \\tc4s0b\groups\AFCCB\TRAINING group folder to allow for knowledge sharing.
Below, you’ll find the steps necessary to request training for common learning opportunities for DSD-Marine employees.
“Free” Online Training (Canada School of Public Service, YouTube, Microsoft, etc.)
Consult with your Scrum Team prior to scheduling training.
Create DSD-Marine Team calendar-entry for your scheduled training: (see image below)
Include your name, location of training (home/office), and other relevant information in the Subject.
Include course URL and information in the appointment details.
Invite your Scrum Master (if applicable) and immediate supervisor (mandatory) to the appointment.
For training 2 hours or more, submit a LAR for the training
Once LAR is approved, register for your course (if needed).
Once you’ve recorded the Training appointment in the DSD-Marine Team calendar and once training has been approved, update your personal calendar to reflect reduced/limited availability on the day of your training (Busy or Out of Office depending on the course).
Once your course is completed, be sure to update your PSPA with the course information (if not already in your PSPA) and set the status of the learning objective to Completed.
Pluralsight
Consult with your Scrum Team prior to scheduling training.
Create shared calendar-entry for your scheduled training on MAACE-General-LEAVE/CONGÉ calendar (see image below - all highlighted fields need to be set appropriately).
Please note: All Day and Show As Free must be selected; otherwise, your scrum master and manager’s personal calendars will get messed up.
For training 2 hours or more, submit a LAR for the training
Once LAR is approved, register for your course (if needed).
Update your personal calendar to reflect reduced/limited availability on the day of your training.
On the day of your scheduled training…
Request a Pluralsight license from your Scrum Master if you have not yet received the license.
PluralSight licenses are provided one day at a time. If you need more time, please contact your Scrum Master to request an extension (assuming no one else needs it).
Once training is completed, be sure to update your PSPA with the course information (if not already in your PSPA) and set the status of the learning objective to Completed.
Classroom/Seminar/Workshop
Consult with Scrum Master and Scrum team prior to scheduling training.
Register for the course.
For training 2 hours or more, submit a LAR for the training
Once LAR is approved, register for your course (if needed).
Create DSD-Marine Team calendar-entry for your scheduled training:
Include your name, location of training, and other relevant information in the Subject.
Add the address of the seminar/classroom/workshop in the Location field (if not included in Subject)
Include the course information in the appointment details.
Invite your Scrum Master (if applicable) and immediate supervisor (mandatory) to the appointment.
Once you’ve recorded the Training appointment in the DSD-Marine Team calendar and once training has been approved, update your personal calendar to reflect reduced/limited availability on the day of your training.
Once training is completed, be sure to update your PSPA with the course information (if not already in your PSPA) and set the status of the learning objective to Completed.
