Description

Canada Ports
A port is a maritime commercial facility which may comprise one or more wharves where ships may dock to load and discharge passengers and cargo. Although usually situated on a sea coast or estuary, some ports are many miles inland, with access from the sea via river or canal.
Port Divestiture Programs (PDP) Database is a collection of all ports in Canada with current transfer status such as "Transfer Status" such as Deproclaimed, Transferred, Not Transferred etc and is maintained by the NCR Programs Group, Air and Marine Programs.

Process for EGIS integration

MDB File Transformation:

  1. In FME, use the Google Geocoder transformer to geocode by port name.

  2. Expose the returned Lat/Long value.

  3. Transform the Lat/Long to point.

  4. Output to KML, SHP or GDB as required

  5. Import into EGIS

TC Smart Maps:

  1. Not all GIS applications can consume KML file directly due to its unique data structures such as networklinks, folders, models etc.

  2. Please contact Lawrence Chong, Digital Services Directorate for TC Smart Maps KML dataset and format translation.

Customization:

  1. Schema transformation: As required.

  2. Denormalization: Not required

  3. Value coding: Not required

  5. Attribute removal: It is highly recommended as some fields are unnecessary, this will also reduce file size and improve performance

  6. Geoenrichment: Feature symbolization using Status theme is recommended to improve visualization

  7. Format translation: Not required

  8. Language translation: French version not available
