Description

The Marine Safety and Security Program develops and administers policies and regulations to advance the safety and security of Canada’s marine transportation system. We promote an efficient and sustainable system that protects the marine environment and contributes to economic development.

Our corporate headquarters is in Ottawa. The Regional Directors General oversee the Marine Safety and Security offices in each of the five regions:

  • Pacific

  • Prairie and Northern

  • Ontario

  • Quebec

  • Atlantic.

What we do

We develop policies and regulations under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001, the Marine Transportation Security Act, the Safe Containers Act, the Pilotage Act, the Canada Labour Code, Part II, the Coasting Trade Act, the Marine Liability Act and the Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act in consultation with industry stakeholders.
