Meeting with Aaron Ludmer 28 SEP 18
Attendees: Aaron Ludmer, Kevin Lim, Jonathan Bailey
Date: 281000Q SEP 18
Location: 330 Sparks 2437
Agenda
Our agenda was to discuss the following items:
current level of integration and involvement with FGP;
GIS activities to date on OPP; and,
contents of the MapInfo data folder.
Discussion
FGP
Aaron sits on the Board of Directors of FGP
There are 3 committees on which TC can participate
Client services (vacant)
Data working group (Joshua Boettcher)
Technical working group (vacant)
Aaron suggested that someone from EGIS should sit on the technical working group
FGP has a Data Quality Assessment Template (http://mytc/RDIMS/14533765) that he shared with us
OPP
There’s an effort underway to establish a GIS Centre, which would define GIS best practices, data governance, etc., within Transport Canada
This effort is under Christian Dea, DG Transportation Economic Analysis
Aaron has documents that describe its envisioned role in relation to EGIS, TC, and FGP, which he will share once the concept is approved by the DG
MapInfo data folder
Don’t use the contents of the Shared folder; its contents are suspect
Aaron and other members of the GIS Centre will examine the contents and post relevant datasets to the sandbox portal
General
AIS data
exactEarth is the new data provider
Jeihua should coordinate with Aaron data loading and access via EGIS
TransCAD is a major GIS component within the Economic Analysis group
EGIS will encourage data custodians to store data in the cloud, rather than on-premises
Open data in ArcGIS Online / ArcGIS Hub? Probably requires coordination with FGP
Is it possible to restrict the level of detail available to a user based on role?
Would it be possible to save a map document or image to RDIMS?
Action Items
Aaron to share documents & diagram after approval from his DG (in progress)
@Jon to create an account on sandbox portal for GIS Centre staff (completed)
GIS Centre team to publish interesting and useful data (not started)
@Jon to put @Jiehua in contact with Aaron to coordinate loading AIS data (in progress)
@Stefan to decide which member of EGIS team to sit on FGP technical working group (not started)
