Park and Protected Area
Description
National Parks dataset consists of 43 National Parks and National Park Reserves.
Environment Canada's Protected Areas are prescribed legal framework to facilitate the protection of wildlife and their habitat. Established according to biological criteria, these protected areas are primarily created for the purpose of conservation. Management activities may include interventions such as habitat restoration and investigative research projects on species and habitat. By conserving these habitats, Environment Canada's protected areas help ensure that wildlife species do not become at risk, thereby preserving biodiversity at regional, national and even international scales. Canada's protected areas represent a significant contribution to the protection of global biodiversity. There are over 4000 publicly and privately managed protected areas in Canada.

Remarks
The most appropriate dataset to use for EGIS would be from Environment Canada as it contains all types of protected areas including national park, migratory bird sanctuary, national wildlife area, protected area, nature reserve and provincial park.
Process for EGIS integration
ESRI REST and WMS Web Services:
ESRI REST and WMS Web Services can be integrated directly into EGIS.
SHP and GDB File:
SHP/GDB files can be integrated directly into EGIS.
TC Smart Maps:
Not all GIS applications can consume KML file directly due to its unique data structures such as networklinks, folders, models etc.
Please contact Lawrence Chong, Digital Services Directorate for TC Smart Maps KML dataset and format translation.

Customization:
Schema transformation: As required
Denormalization: It is recommended to perform minimal generalization to improve display performance.
Value coding: Not required
Attribute renaming: As required to improve readability
Attribute removal: It is highly recommended as some fields are unnecessary, this will also reduce file size and improve performance
Geoenrichment: Feature symbolization is recommended to improve visualization.
Format translation: Not required
Language translation: French version available
Update frequency: As identified
