Generating a Transcript Report causes an Error

Problem

When genearating a Case's Transcript Report (i.e. the single file PDF dossier containing all details of the case), Crystal Reports will crash with the error message "The request could not be submitted for background processing."

Solution

This is caused when a Case's images are too high in resolution.

  1. Identify which images are associated with the case.

  2. Open a Windows Explorer and navigate to: \\ncrfs352\msca\PRODUCTION\FileServer\Images and filter for the IMAGE_IDs found in step 1.

  3.  Identify which files are too big.  Their resolution will be reduced in the next step.

  4. Optional: make a backup somewhere of the images identified in step 3.  I will often use \\ncrfs352\msca\DEVELOPMENT\FileServer\Images

  5. The quickest way I have found to reduce the resolution of multiple images at once is as an email attachment.
    1. Select the files identified in step 3, right-click and "Send to", "Mail recipient".

    2. This will bring up a menu to select Picture size.  Choose "Large: 1280 x 1024", then click "Attach"

    3. This will then create an email with the selected files attached.

    4. Copy the attachments back into the folder from Step 2 - yes, you will be overwriting the old files with smaller versions of themselves.

    5. Run the Transcript Report.  It should work now.
