Major Project Inventory

Description

Major Projects Inventory (Includes MPMO and NPMO) provides a snapshot of major natural resource projects currently under construction or for which construction is planned to be initiated in the next 10 years. The inventory includes major projects that increase, extend or improve natural resource production in Canada, including new extraction projects, infrastructure projects and major processing facilities. Large expansion projects are also included in the inventory.

DEPRECATED - Major Project Management Office (MPMO)- DEPRECATED
The MPMO was established in 2007 to support the Government of Canada’s new approach to the regulatory review of major resource projects – an approach that ensures a more effective, accountable, transparent and timely review process.

The MPMO’s mandate is two-fold:

  • to provide overarching project coordination, management and accountability for major resource projects within the context of the existing federal regulatory review process; and,

  • to undertake research and identify options that drive further performance improvements to the federal regulatory system for major resource projects.
