CAWIS RE-ASSIGNING EXISTING MODELS TO A NEW MANUFACTURER

Occasionally, errors are found on the CAWIS make-model tables.

Manufacturer names are tied to specific countries (on Y50), and frequently, models (on y61, y62) are discovered to be assigned under a manufacturer for the wrong country since many of the SAME manufacturing companies operate out of multiple countries.

see PBI -123197

Duplication of this type is normally accounted for on the manufacturer table by suffixing Manufacturers with country designations (example : PRATT & WHITNEY - CAN , PRATT & WHITNEY - USA, DEHAVILLAND - CAN, DEHAVILLAND - AU, DEHAVILLAND - UK)

This is not to be confused with instances where models are “aliased

(ie: 2 or more manufacturers are assigned to a given model, having equivalent type-approval codes)

Aliases are a result of lineage, whereby the Type-approval for a given model, is passed from one company to another over the decades.

This article is only meant to describe a situation where a model was found allocated to the wrong manufacturer, from day 1, and needs to be moved

To correct this type of error :

  1. replicate the existing model(s) onto Y61, Y62 under the desired manufacturer_id

  2. update all instances of old-manufacturer_id to desired-manufacturer_id on the following tables Y04, C10, M73, C23, Y70, M41, Y71, Y72, TR87.

  3. delete the model(s) from the SIGs subsystem (y63) - they will auto-restore under the proper country overnight

  4. Delete the incorrect manufacturer_id/model_id combination from Y62, Y61. (if an exception occurs, revisit Step 2 and make the correction to that additional table)
