Manufacturer Maintenance

Manufacturer data is maintained from the CAWIS Admin menu, however the full list of data sources for manufacturer data is available at : Manufacturer/Model Tables, Data Sources and Usage

Options :

  1. query manufacturer

  2. modify manufacturer

  3. delete manufacturer

  4. Add new manufacturer

  1. Query Manufacturer - enter full or partial manufacturer name then select from list

  2. Modify manufacturer - The Inspectors occasionally update a manufacturer spelling, or country. A spelling change may require that the auto-correct tables be updated first. All instances of the old spelling of that manufacturer need to be updated on Z980 in the To_txt column.

A future enhancement should

a) auto-update the TO_txt column to the new manufacturer value, without requiring the user to enter the Term Conversion module.

b) the Term Conversion module should have a link directly within Manufacturer maintenance, it doesn`t logically belong under General properties.

3. Delete manufacturer - this works well for “new” entries made in error, but raises an exception for manufacturers in use on any table but Y60/Y50/Y56. This function is rarely used

4. Add new manufacturer

Fill in the form as shown - Note: Legal name is not used or viewed anywhere in CAWIS, and is generally filled in with common-name.

The 20 character limits for both Manufacturer and Model are a carry-over from the old mainframe systems and should possibly be revisited, but a careful review of system wide impacts would be required. (examples: the AAIR printout, the dropdowns in the AD, WSDRS, PTS, AMOC, TSB subsystems etc… )

If the manufacturer being entered exists in the from_txt of the Z980_term_conversion tables, but points to another existing manufacturer in the To_txt , this page will auto-correct, then raise a “duplicate” error on the save. If this occurs, go to the Term_conversion module, and either :

a) delete all instances of the desired “new manufacturer” in the from_txt or

b) update all instances of the To_txt to the “new manufacturer” where that value exists in “From_txt

Note: there is always one row on Z980 where from_txt = to_txt for each manufacturer listed on y60

Then simply return to the manufacturer module and enter the new manufacturer, as desired.

To update the Z980_term_conversion table, go to

CAWIS-MAIN-MENU -> CODE TABLE ADMIN → GENERAL → TERM CONVERSION

The Search facility will return rows by searching BOTH the FROM and TO columns. If a “from” term is pointing to the wrong manufacturer in the “TO” column, simply delete that row.

OTHER SOURCES FOR NEW MANUFACTURERS

  1. TI Entry during Airworthiness Directive (AD) Input

This feature is only used for Equipment AD’s. The new manufacturer is assigned whatever country_code is assigned to the AD being entered. Corrections can be made later on the manufacturer maintenance page, if necessary.

2) CLIENT data entry on AAIR page

The CLIENT can define new, Engine, Propeller, Float and Ski manufacturers (and models) during AAIR submission

3) CAWIS user data entry on the 5008 or AAIR page

The TC CAWIS user can define new, Aircraft, Engine, Propeller, Float and Ski manufacturers (and models) during 5008 modification. They can also do this on the internal AAIR page, the same as the client. (e,p,f,s types only)

4) CCARCS DATA IMPORT

CAWIS will establish new manufacturers (and models) for any previously unseen values found under Common-name or Id-Plate-manufacturers-name during the nightly synchronization job

5) NAPA interface

The NAPA interface is used in the Airworthiness Directive subsystem to assist with data entry. The TI selects a TC-holder from NAPA, which then maps all of the approval numbers (TC_code or Foreign_num from V_CAW_TC_HOLDER_NAPA@NNPRODC.WORLD) back to CAWIS TATC-codes and populates the dropdowns with the associated mfg/models.

CAWIS picks up any values from the TC-holder column that do not exist on Y60_manufacturer and either

a) creates a new mapping to an existing manufacturer on Z980_term_conversion - or -

b) establishes a new manufacturer in CAWIS ( example: when Bombardier was broken into several organizations a few years back we were presented with AIRBUS CANADA, MHI RJ and DEHAVILLAND AIRCRAFT as “new” manufacturers ) The Continuing Airworthiness TI’s would later establish models based on these manufacturer designations.

6) FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) SDR DATA

A conversion table for incoming/outgoing FAA data is maintained at Y72_FAA_MODEL_CONVERSION.

For any new manufacturers found during a data import it will :

a) create a new mapping to an existing manufacturer on Z980_term_conversion - or -

b) establish a new manufacturer in CAWIS
